Well I still don't consider myself to be an audiophile.
I have upgraded my listening step by step all the way down from
crapstatic ear phones. Whether you people believe it or not I don't
even know about Grado, Ultrasone, Sennheiser and AKG until I
have started my life in UK. In the past few years I used to fancy
BOSE a lot. And I still fancy them. My upgrade tree goes like this..
Philips HS820---- Philips HS900 (Fullsize)---- Sennheiser HD 555
---- Sennheiser HD 280/Philips HN110 (Noise Cancellation) ------
and finally Ultrasone HFI-650s now. I have done all this with in
the span of 1 year. Thanks to CNET & HeadRoom for their valuable
advice. I normally don't keep my old stuff with me and would rahter
sell it to people like me. Even though I have got Ultrasones, my mind
always tickles for atleast a pair of BOSE headphones. I don't know the
reason. It could be because of the love developed over the years.
Everyday I listen to my Ultrasones and I like them pretty much.
Crystal clear highs and highly defined bass. Sweet midrange as well.
But whenever I goto Apple store around in the shopping centre I jump
on to the QuietComforts2, Triports (Circum-Aural) and Triports (Supra-Aural) now.
I would listen for atleast an hour before I leave the market place.
They all sound pretty good to me along with my Ultrasones.
I normally use an MP3CD player at home and when I listen to BOSE
through ipod I like them pretty much. I have conducted many auditions
over the past 12 months. I didn't find any specific thing to point out.
The only thing I have figured out is with the highs being excellent on
Ultrasones of all the ones I listened through. Bass is about the same
on both Ultrasones and BOSEs.
One things for sure. I am a big fan of Dr Amar Gopal Bose for his
excellent theoretical approach.
Someone help me out to distinguish.
Thanks for scrolling through by the way.

I am going to say its cause you have not tried a beierdynamic ( 880/990) or sennheiser (590+) headphone with a dedicated amp.

defending bose on this forum is akin to pissing into a hurricane.

good luck and yes please do spend the Bose $$ on an amp and a better source like a small dac.

He hasn't tried a Grado, either.

Hey, buy a Grado! And buy an amp with vacuum tubes in it. Then listen to the Bose again and see what you think.

lol agreed

i tried bose triports, they sounded like my 20 dollar sony mdr v150s which i also promptly returned because my nextech headphones were much better in every regard.

try beyerdynamic 880/990 as someone said above, it'll blow you away. triports aren't in the same league.

As a owner of Ultrasone HFI-650/700, I am appaled that you put them in the same leauge as Bose Headphones. Please note that your Apple Store Source was a un-amped iPod using 128KBPS ACC, not the best for critical listing.

My friend has a pair of these triports:
p_triport_m_s.jpg

I was listening to them last night for ~45 minutes and a lot of other times. I tried all sorts of EQ settings and no eq, and I tried them out of his iPod and soundcard, and both times they weren't detailed, the mids and highs weren't very good at all, especially the highs, and the bass was booooooomy. Not tight at all. There is a LOT of bass on my pair of Hd212s, but it's actually more refined, even though the amount is probably similar, or even maybe more than on the triports. I've tried them many times at listening stations in electronics stores, which are probably EQed a lot, and it's still the same deal.

But they are really comfortable, they look cool, and even though a lot of people complain about the headband, everything on those headphones pretty much contours perfectly. They're more comfortable than my pair of Hd212s and Hd595s.

well, I wouldn't buy them, but if you like them and they fit you, then the decision is up to you, even though most people here will tell you no.

I can answer the OP original question...It is because that is your sound...you simply like them. You feel right with them. Enough said...others can argue but until you start enjoying your music using other equipment they will be provide you your sound. This is about the enjoyment of music after all.
