I don't think any of my CDs have scratches, but I think the jewel cases could be better designed. It's often happened that I've opened one, the CD was not properly on the central springy thing (even though carefully placed before), and proceeded to slide through the gap between the front and back hinges. Definitely some contact with the playing surface was made, but luckily no damage - so far.
