As a student of philosophy, I've found that it has generated a lot of questions, many related to the foundational assumptions of knowledge.  Physicalism is one such assumption, and one which, combined with methodological naturalism, has been extremely successful at generating reliable, predictive, accurate, repeatable, knowledge.  However, I'm not inclined to agree that I hold more convictions with certainty than I did beforehand; rather, I'd suggest the opposite trend has occurred.  Certainty tends to be connected with dogmatism, while open-minded inquiry requires one's commitments to be provisional, and open to change based upon falsifying evidence.

Although I do not follow any particular individual entirely, one philosopher I happen to like is Daniel Dennett.
