I'm probably one of the few computer people here (that cares about performance) still on socket A, but who knows there may be more

Of course I still have it pulling some decent bandwidth at 265x10.5

I was close to upgrading to socket 939 around fall 2005, but then realized there wasn't too much point in it since all my games run fine, and thats about the most CPU intensive thing I do. And of course at the time what was thought to be socket M2 was what I was also waiting for (now known as AM2).

Tom's Hardware has a review of the 4800+ AM2 using DDR2-667, and the performance isn't very good, but most people are thinking this is because the current DDR2 has very poor latencies and aren't using very good ICs. I'm sure with time and DDR2-800 will be the officialy supported memory on the new platform, just like PC3200 is now. The article is here

Yeah I'm a computer guy too. Right now I'm running a 754 pin athlon 64 3200+ that I have had since fall of 2003 (the week they came out) as my main box and have an athlon XP 2600+ Barton that i run as a mythtv box.

I"m pretty sure my next main box will be an AM2. I know that my machine is still pretty darn good and has withstood the test of time fairly well ... it just seems like I've had it forever and that i need to upgrade.

But as an aside I'm thinking about building a rig to put in my car out of a turion 64. But I need to buy a new tv because my projector bulb just went out and don't want to have to buy new bulbs all the time ... and i want new speakers. So far new computers is on the back burner.

edit: I just realized that after lurking for 4 months, this is my first post ... so yay for me

Wow, 265*10.5? Which model do you have? For that matter, what kind of voltage did that take? And how are you cooling it?

I've managed to squeeze out a whopping 220*11 from my 3200+ Barton. It's hardly blazing fast, but it does the job.

I was on Socket A (Actually, I'm President of the Socket A club on [H]ard|forum,

) but my new gaming rig is now s939 based. My Venice far outperforms my Palimono core Athlon XP, even while the XP is overclocked.

The build I'm on right now (my first build, $500 [qiote good for the price, if I might add]) is running an Athlon XP 3000+ Barton Core, which comes stock at 2.16Ghz, and I've OCed it (first OC, as well) to 2.38Ghz. I'm loving it, so I can't imagine how much I'd love an Athlon 64 o_O.

That's quite impressive. I need 1.725V to get my current overclock stable (granted, my motherboard does have a bit of a voltage droop), although I plan to do some more tweaking.

was on socket A till about a month ago, barton 2500+ on a dfi nfII board, oc'd to 2.315

that said, my 3700+ smoked it all to hell at stock speeds, currently running 3.03ghz solid as a rock at stock voltages, i'll push it one of these days, but i'm just having to much fun with it.

other big reason for the upgrade was to free up parts to finally put together a hometheater machine, which I am now also enjoying

btw, watercooling ftw, 31c full load temps at 3.03ghz

I'm running an Athlon XP 2200+ Thoroughbred OC'ed to 1.974 GHz (141x14) and it's been running great. However, does anyone know where I can pick up an XP-M anywhere, preferably 2600+ or higher? (Unfortunately, I'm limited by my motherboard right now to a 266 MHz stock bus which I've tested stable at up to 286 MHz)

glad to see there are still lots of members of club 462

the only think i'm waiting for is a $150 dual core from AMD, which probably be some sort of sempy. AM2 or 939, either way its gotta be $150.

I'm still on a Barton 2500+ and a Radeon 9700 Pro. I was waiting for AM2 before building a new system, but since then, I somehow lost interest in gaming, and that was the whole point for me to build a nice PC. Now I'm thinking that my next rig will be a HTPC instead of a gaming one.

I was on a water cooled athlon xp 2400+ running at around 2.6ghz for a while, but i just recently upgraded to my socket 939 opteron 165. When it first came out it was around $270, and i decided that i just couldnt pass that deal up. The performance jump was huge, and i feel no need to overclock right now (im still on stock cooling and all my money is being sucked up by this sink hole that yall call a forum)
