I love my 701s(have two pairs)... I use them for listening, and for recording/mixing/mastering reference(I am a record engineer)..

for "all around listening" I much prefer them to even my Stax which are much more expensive. (Stax I do enjoy for classical)
who to send the cans to for cable upgrade? webpage, contact info?

also...need to have new pads put on.

Alex @ apuresound is always a good choice. I imagine he would fit them with the new pads if you purchased them and had them shipped to him around the same time your K701s arrived. Don't take my word on that though. Send him an email and see if that would be doable.

Alex at APS and Drew at Moon both do excellent, respectable work. i had a moon black dragon on my K701s, and it was an excellent cable. Never compared it to stock, so I can't speak to differences, but it was well assembled and really inured itself to me.
