Of course, one can easily take the other side, which I do. Faith No More are metal. The first three albums, anyway.

The first three albums did not get any musical influence by Patton, though. He came in on the third, and wrote lyrics and sang them over already completed tracks.

I was considering Mike Patton vs. Phil Anselmo.
I opted for Phil because Pantera is truly a metal band.
Faith No More's music is a fusion of: rock, funk, hard rock, rap, ..., and heavy metal.
Mike Patton has a much better voice than Anselmo. - There's no comparison.
They are not in the same league. Mike Patton belongs to elite of rock singers!

What I read before launching this poll about Mike Patton:

He's got one of the most skilled and versatile voices in rock music.

I think that Skid Row is much closer to (pure) metal than Faith No More.
By the way, Skid Row is a hard rock/heavy metal band.

Queensryche is not a heavy metal band per se like Black Sabbath,
Iron Maiden, Metallica, etc

Someone above pointed this out as well.
I don't see you guys opposing his name on the list.
Perhaps because his voice is phenomenal!
I think that he's better than Halforfd and Dickinson.

What I read before launching this poll:

'Geoff Tate took Rob Halford's and Bruce Dickinson's (semi-operatic) singing
to another level.'

I cannot argue with this.

Again, Queensryche is not pure Metal band.
It is hard rock, prog rock, prog metal, ...

Embedded Poll:
Should Geoff Tate be on this poll?
option 1: No!
option 2: Yes!
option 3: I don't know - I have no opinion

Since we only consider pure metal bands with pure tears in my eyes I voted: No!

In common use, Warrant is every bit as much heavy metal as Black Sabbath. <insert random, "Dio is a midget" joke here, because you just can't talk about metal singers with high voices without doing it>

I think the main thing with Mike Patton is that when he has major creative influence, the bluesy rock, punk, and funk influences tend to dominate the music. Queensryche varied a good bit (past, because I'm sticking to when DeGarmo was on, for this, so we can ignore the crap stuff for years after the split), but had classical composition and theatrical influences dominating the sound and themes, always hard-hitting and/or deeply emotional (often sappy--I consider much of Empire a guilty pleasure

), and with an emphasis on dark, if airy, atmosphere.

In terms of overall talent, Mike Patton is easily an heir to Freddie Mercury, able to blend and change styles and mood effortlessly (to us listeners, anyway), and doing so ways that come across as natural.

How can you have Skid Row (basically glam), Soundgarden (grunge) and Tool (alterna-What) on your list, then question the inclusion of Queensryche?

I admit Mikael's clean voice isn't that great. I'm just going on what I've heard and within the metal genre when I say I like his stuff.

The Real Thing is metal. Patton shares much more in common with metal singers than hard rock or alternative rock.

By pure metal I (and others) mean that there is no fusion of e.g. hard rock.
Well, look below.

Who is NOT heavy metal?

Tool
AC/DC
Soundgarden
Queensryche

*** I have not heard much of Scorpions and Skid Row, so no comment...

Don't argue, it is what it is

Lots of great Heavy Metal singers but I wanted to mention the 'voice of heavy metal' from BBC radio in the 80's...Tommy Vance.
