I bought some Chord Crimson interconnects, and whilst they sound great, there's a lumpy white substance on the interior of the RCA connectors -- is this normal or should I try to scrape it off?

RCA connectors are normally gilded. There is a plate of metal that surrounds a hard plastic. While I do not have any good RCA connectors, the radioshack one that broke in my receiver the other day was built in this manner.

Sounds like some salts left over from the plating process which indicates they didn't do a good job of cleaning the connectors afterward.

One of the Chord Chorus 2's I purchased had the exact same thing, puzzled me too.

I cleaned it off and treated with Caig Deoxit as I would with any new cable and it works a treat, no problem. Don't believe it is anything to worry about.
