The Mars Volta and Sparta, so At The Drive-In could return

I'm not sure if it would work very well since his music is so erratic, but I'd lilke to see Amon Tobin make an album with a female singer though I'm not completely sure what type of voice would work... maybe Beth Gibbons with something along the lines of Permutation?

that's another collaboration that has already happened... although not for a studio release (as far as i am aware).

sonic youth opened for neil young on one of his tours awhile back, and the two jammed together on stage. i believe there are bootlegs floating around.

i don't know what their relationship is now, but there's certainly no love lost between RHCP and Faith No More. the latter was unfairly accused of being a Chili Peppers rip-off band.

1. Dave Lombardo with Metallica, playing Dyers Eve
2. Al Jourgensen and KMFDM
3. Al Jourgensen and Helmet
4. Les Claypool and James Brown
5. Izzy Stradlin and the Black Crowes
6. Jimmy Page and the Ozzy-Iommi-Butler-Ward Black Sabbath (listen to Sabbath's "Past Lives" and you'll see what I mean)

Actually... Vernon Reid and Dennis Chambers, Victor Wooten and Dennis Chambers or Vernon Reid and Victor Wooten. The trio would be ideal.

That probably would be a good one, or at least Eno as producer. Kind of tired of that Godrich sound. But really, Eno's influence already highly shaped their sound so I'm not sure it would be much different with him on board. It would be fun if more bands could come up with the quirky but hugely innovative sound of early Roxy Music. Haven't heard any lately, although sparks of it in some of the bands like Arcade Fire and TV on the Radio and some others.

BTW, Radiohead in one of their stealthy guises, or at least Thom and Jonny and one of the guys from Roxy music and I think Bernard Butler and a couple others, has covered some Eno, and pretty well too. Some Roxy Music too. Have you heard the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack? They do a pretty good version of "Baby's On Fire", but as good as he is, and he is very good, Jonny Greenwood is no match for Robert Fripp who turns in one of the most riveting guitar solos of the rock era on the original.

If you haven't heard it yet, Masonjar and I often mention the great Cul de Sac Crashes to Light, Minutes to Its Fall around here. Really nice guitar sound. Kind of like surf rock meets post-rock in a guitar drawn, synth enhanced, middle eastern desert, albeit one that might not be on our planet. 1999 release on Thirsty Ear. Brilliant music and one of my favorites of the last few years. Kind of like a merging of the souls of John Fahey and Brian Eno, but these guys will take you on a real magic carpet ride. All instrumental and a pretty nice HDCD recording with mucho headphone delights too.

Good point...I was thinking in terms of Eno as a producer of a Radiohead album. The influence is already there though. Maybe not a revolutionary partnership, but one I have always wanted to see happen. Haven't heard "Velvet Goldmine," but just checked out Cul de Sac and put it on my wishlist.
