Hello,
 
I would like to upgrade and have narrowed it down between two interfaces, the two I am considering are the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 or PreSonus AudioBox USB. 
 
Currently I have a Lexicon Alpha with balanced cables running on Windows 7 with KRK Rokit RP2 8's. I would love to use ASIO with the interface.
 
What are thoughts on either or something in the same price rage.

I would say go Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. The DAC is VERY excellent, and the unit itself is made entirely out of metal save for the knobs. The only downside is that the 2i2 doesn't have MIDI ins/outs, if you need that at some point down the line. I could never be happier with my 8i6.

The only thing I will use the 2i2 for time being is play back, and I am am glad you like your Focusrite. Would having a dedicated power supply like the 8i6 help?

My usual conclusions are yes; DACs sound much better with a wall wart or dedicated PSU than they do bus-powered. Of course, the 8i6 REQUIRES a wall-wart at least. All the Scarletts should contain the same DACs, so I would say go for the 2i2 (if you're using for playback only) then get a power adapter for the wall, maybe an upgraded dedicated PSU later on down the road if you want. For sure though, USB power stinks haha.
