Hey all,

I am looking to get an amp, hopefully not an expensive one (I looked into making a cmoy but I'd suspect I'd botch it). I've compiled a list of the ones I'm looking at getting (probably off ebay), in the order that it seems people like them in the forums. I would be using them primarily with an akg 271s and secondarily with an hd 580. Any comments/suggestions/corrections are welcome. Thanks!

-Pimeta
-PA2V2
-Cmoy
-Airhead

Here are some others:

I'd say PIMETA probably. YOu might also want to consider the Go Vibe 3

Welcome to head-fi , sorry about your wallet and time ..
( it's the usual welcome here , don't worry )

While the amp you listed are decent/nice portable amps , I think that you can't go wrong hunting down a rega-ear on ebay for that price .
The rega ear couple nicely with hd580 and k271

..another amp I'd consider in your price range is the headsave classic ..

If you're patient you could hold out for another Xin sale and get a supermini-3he was selling them for $150 a few weeks ago but they are now back up to $200. Mine hasn't arrived yet, but the word is these are a class above the other amps you're looking at.

Even at $200 the supermini-3 seems great value, many think that its as good as the Hornet!

Pimeta
mint

IMHO any of the buffered amps would be my preference. Since getting a used mint I haven't cared to listen to my Gmoy, PA2V2 or govibe. Theyre all about the same price too. Note also that I'm running my mint at 18V... great budget HD580 synnergy.

Thanks all! In summary the votes seem to be for pimeta, waiting for the xin supermini to go on sale, or finding a used rega-ear on ebay. I hadn't heard of the latter two amps in my internet travels so this is definitely turning into a good learning experience for me.

i can't speak for other amps, but pimeta is a good amp. i can't say i much prefer my M3 over my pimeta, espicially with HD650.

I use the Rega Ear with a Senn HD 580 and it sounds very nice.
