I have ruled out Creative owing to a truck load money wasted a few years ago on an Elite Pro which was total pap with even worse community/driver support.

So, I am left with Asus although if I have misjudged Creative with my past experience, I will gladly listen to recommendations from them.

I will be gaming mainly on my Goldring DR 150's and watching video through my Z5500 speakers.

I have been thinking of:

Asus Xonar D1 7.1 PCI
Asus Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-e

Other than the different interface and the DX requiring a floppy power connector, much difference between the 2?

My thinking is, I am unlikely to use the PCI slots for anything else yet the PCI-e slots could very well be used for other things in the future, USB 3.0 expansion card, TV Tuner etc.

Would it then make sense to get the PCI one if the specs of the 2 cards are the same?

I only built my rig a year ago so by the time I come to buy a new Mobo with possibly no PCI slots on, there will be better sound cards out anyway.

Thanks.
