I've just bought an iPod Classic 80gb with Wofson DAC installed, I also have the Fiio E12 Mont Blanc and a pair of monitors. My Fiio came with a lead that connects into the bottom of the iPod (L9), I also have a jack to jack but I am wondering which is the best way to go about things.
Do I do straight monitors to iPod, or go through the Fiio and then is it better to use the Jack 2 Jack or the ipod fitting L9.

What would you think would be the better quality sound? Not bothered about carrying both if it is better sound. I just would like to get into it a little more and listen to my music in a different way while in hospital. I have time on my hands to listen to lots of music then.

I do not see how the FiiO E12 Mont Blanc offers any improvement, connected between the iPod and (studio) monitors.
I would go for a modern DAP (Digital Audio Player), with a line output function, for connecting to the monitors.
