hello all, i have a $50 voucher for use with sennheiser headphones only.

i'm thinking of picking up either the hd555 or eh350.

i'm going unamped this instance. not even a cmoy will accompany me here - space and cash constraints. the source will be an ipod nano. i want something forgiving, and maybe a bit flat sounding? something like a more dynamic sounding er4p would be perfect.

the music being fed into my new phones will be mostly pop/rock (eg franz ferdinand, m83, the new pornographers, rammstein, clayman). no classical or jazz.

i enjoy my px100, hd201 and er-4p. i did not enjoy the hd25-1 or px200. i do not want something similar to the rs-1 (ie no grado or grado-esque phone recommendations please).

Considering the cans you like/dislike, you should try to get a 580/600/650.

Good luck and enjoy it

If you want a cheap peak into the Sennheiser world, I see no need to get the HD 595s. You might as well stick with the HD 555s and see if you like the sound at all.

If the choice is either HD555 or eH350 only, then I wouldn't hesitate to go with the 555, as it's in another league (the eH350 is mainly an improved HD497).

I absolutely agree with that. If you have the money, just go straight to the HD 555.

could somebody describe the sound of the hd555 to me? or the eh350? from what headroom says i gather that the hd555 sound has some degree of 'bloom' while the eh350 sounds more on the 'dry' side. i am looking for something more along the line of 'dry' than 'bloomy', which imo i already fulfill with my rs-1.

from the headroom website:

the hd555 has a hump in the midbass i'm somewhat concerned with - so, please, if someone has heard any of the above senn phones, please describe it!

The 555's are pretty good. I ran them straight out of my laptop but it had to work it's ass off to play them with any volume.

Consider this - pick up a cheap receiver or integrated amp '70s vintage, Pioneer, Sansui, Kenwood, etc. Not the last word in sound maybe, but your 555's will take off and you will have spent very little.

Good luck,
