OK I ordered a Beyerdynamic DT-1350 4 weeks ago to play music from my 120GB iPod. Sound is just "ok" for 280 Eurobucks. Mostly lacks instrument separation. It's like all instruments are pinched together into a hose and I'm listening at the other end of the hose.
Now when I connect the DT-1350 to the headphones jack of my Sony DAT59ES (a stone age high quality DAT recorder) these headphones come alive. Very nice instrument separation and clear sound. Still not great soundstage but I was warned about that.
Anyway I would like to know if there's a portable amp out there that can match the sound from my DAT recorder HP jack.
I'm looking in the 100-200 price range, so the E17 or even E11 might fit the budget. But will it deliver the sound I get from the DAT?
If not, are there any portable headphones that will, or is a DAT recorder several grades better than the best HP amp by definition?
Thanks!
