I have $200 in amazon credit i want to use on headphones. I plan on listening mostly on my 4g ipod nano and Ipod Classic 5G (60gb). Ocassionaly listening on my PC with a older creative Audigy 2 ZS card.

I currently own some Klipsch S4 and love the sound characteristics. I now want full size headphones with the same characteristics.. i believe its considered fast punchy bass. I also own a Fiio E1 just in case it matters.

So im trying to decide what would give me the best bang for my $200

The ATH-M50 - $160 shipped amazon.com

or

Sennheiser HD-280 PRO $80 + FiiO E11 $65 = $145

Another option would be these with the FiiO E11 = $95
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AUGV98/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Just remember i need to stay under $200 and dont want to spend money on an amp on top of that $200 if the headphones need one.

Thanks in advance!

Good choices for your needs, can't really go wrong either way for beats based music.

I'd like to suggest the Ultrasone 580 too ~ my personal preference over the M50.

Left field final suggestion? AKG K181 - A very under rated beats based can, better
than the Shure 750DJ in some circles.

I'd go for the Aiaiai Tma-1's over the M50's.

Yeah ive read ththat Ultrasone have the sound im looking for. Ill look into those 580s Thanks. Could you tell me why you chose 580s over M50?

I just saw that the HFI-780 are cheaper than the 580s on amazon.com ... are the 780s better?

I have not used the M50 or HD-280....but
The ATH-M50 price is the highest price I've seen for the ATH-M50 and the HD-280 at about the lowest I've ever seen.
The HD-280 is half the price of the M50s.
I would just go HD-280 just for the price.

Yeah i realised the same thing about the M50s *sigh* ... but amazon tends to drop prices often.. ill see what happens. Thanks for the input.

M50's give a very low bang for the buck. I would pass on them even at $80. After owning them myself, I rate them as a $50~60 headphone frankly. The only good thing is the build quality is like a tank and that the cups swivel 180 degrees. The sound, though, is not what it's hyped up to be.

Very best,

Sadly, I have to concur ~ the M50's are the sole chink in my gamble with buying cans on a whim..

As a whole package for toughness and practicality that make a lot of sense but compared to
my SR80i's ~ they're a bit of a pretender on the SQ front.

Of course assuming I didn't listen to jazz, classical, rock, or soundtracks - just top #40
beats then it would be their best suit.

Prices on some headphones will be dropping between now and Christmas.
Get up early on black Friday and check these site for the best price
or just check every day.

So you guys think the M50s by themselves will sound better than HD-280 PRO + FiiO E11?

I know some of you dont like the M50s but after doing some reasearch.. lots of people say they have the punchy bass.. and thats what im looking for :)

Agreed! Im loving my TMA-1. They are perfect for my tastes. Ive never heard such a good sounding small sealed headphone. I was an open headphone only person until i tried these. I actually prefer them to the HD650. I can't say enough about these.

UPDATE: Went with the Ultrasone HFI-780s  lol  I dunno why.. it was sort of impulse after i heard they were more of a fun headphone than the M50s.

After owning them for a week. Im very happy with them and they are getting better every day.
