I do not know too much about opamps but was wondering what those who have or have heard Grado SR225's recommend in an opamp. I am getting Norm at headsave to build me an amp and I think the choices have been narrowed down to OPA2227, AD8620, AD8610 or OPA627. Any suggestions?

i suggest (e) none of the above. go with 0 opamps in the signal path, i.e. a discrete design like the Gilmore Lite. not sure if it's in your budget, but it works great with Grados, i've heard the SR-225 with it.

AD8620 or dual AD8610 (they are the same thing) sound great to me with every headphone I've tried with 'em, and are fairly easy on batteries. Just don't use a harsh or bright source, because they can be very revealing on top.

Edit -- considering that Grados do have a propensity to harshness with bad recordings or sources, maybe the OPA627 would be more your cup of tea. If you've ever heard the "Grado screech" with certain music, particularly at higher volumes then you know what i mean...

I am fond of the opa627 because its a little darker and this helps with the grados brightness. You never really know though until you get the combination together. Maybe you could get the amp made so you can change op amps and see which ones suite you best.
