Hello
I'm waiting for my new phone tube amplifier (GW T-2.6F) and I'm wondering about my new phones...
In France,it's difficult for me to listen Grado headphones...Impossible would I say...

I own a AKG K240M on my Marantz SA15...the sound is sweet but not very detailed and poor on dynamism
I've read different posts and Grado 315is work good with tube amplifier...?

I like jazz...never classical...
I've tried K1000 and I loved him very much...but lack of bass and the soundstage not in front on me don't please me...
I'm searching for a good soundstage and detailed music...
Which headphones seems to fit me?

Sorry for my english

Bonjour.

I listen to a lot of jazz as well, along with acoustic, and vocal music. The HD650 are almost unbeatable with this kind of music. Jazz sounds so amazingly lush and beautiful. There's bass and midrange (even though people say it is veiled) and amazing detail. I would be curious how the DT880 would sound with these genres.
Problem is that the HD650 need a powerful source/amp, so that might drive up costs, but you got a tube amp coming your way anyways. So you're all set.

For the jazz that you like to listen to the hd650, or SR325 would be the best choice. I would also suggest that you audition the Beyer dt880, and dt990. They offer a viable alternative as well.

Thanks for answering...
Next week, I go to Paris...I think I could listen HD600, HD600, K501, DT880
But I will not have my amplifier by my side...
So which phones fit to a tube amplifier?
325I and what about HF1?

If soundstage is very important to you, I would recommend the HD-6*0s over the Grados.

There really is no way to tell for sure, unless you try a pair of Grados to see if you can stand their lack of soundstage.

The low impedance (32 Ohm) of all Grados doesn't seem to be a suitable load for a tube amp. 6x0 Senns are 300-Ohm, that is much better.
Future AKG's are going to have pretty low impedances, too. 62 Ohms as per Data sheet.
PS: K240DF provide less bass but more detail, attack and focus compared to K240M. I think you may like 'em more (as I do).

Never heard 325i, but it should not be that different from my SR225.
I recommend DT880 for jazz with a tube amplifier.
I don't think 325i, HD6x0 or K501 are particularly great for jazz. Grado in general lacks ambience and 3D soundstage. HD6x0a bit too thick and boomy. K501 a bit light on bass. YMMV.

Hmmm...for Jazz and Tube amp, I highly recommend the DT880. It is a little bright with SS amps and apparently it pairs very well with warm, lush sounding tube amps.

Maybe the best bang for the buck is get a DT880 now and then when the K601 and K701 comes out, grab a second hand K501 for a really cheap price.

BTW, the Senns are really good as well. However, I would look at the HD580 or the HD650. I don't think the HD600 warrants the price difference as the HD580 sounds very similar...the only physical difference between HD600 and HD580 are the driver housing and the grill..
