I am looking at either the AKG K701 headphones for $250 or going all out and getting MarkL modded Denon D2000's. For the extra money is it worth getting the Denons?

If anyone has heard/owned both please give me an idea of what the difference is. Thanks.

What kind of music do you listen to? Are you going to use an amp with your headphones? Are you planning to buy any other equipment? And what kind of headphones do you have and what are you looking for in terms of sound?

I haven't heard the D2000. However, for that price range, I'd hold out for a used Sennheiser HD-600 at $200-$225, or maybe stretch for a new HD-600 around $300. The HD-600 is one of the best all-around headphones on the market.

I've never heard either, nor do I have enough experience to know what I prefer. I guess which ever one is better for classic heavy metal and lots of gaming. Thanks.

Then the D2000s are what you want.

If that's the case please get a entry or mid end phone and get the K701 or markl modded D2000 only when you have a better idea about your preference. I recommend the AD700.

Yeah, what he said. Pretty big jump into the deep. If you're not familiar with high-end headphones yet, but are willing to go for a K701, then please first read the thread about the recent K701 bashing.
