which is the best lossy audio format?

Hello there,

To the best of my knowledge, at such high bitrates, it doesn't matter which format you choose; they will most likely sound identical. I'd go with MP3 since it's widely supported, but if AAC is better supported on your hardware/software then you might go for that.

You can google for 'ABX test' and do your own listening tests to find out if you hear differences between the original and an encoded version, but chances are a 320k MP3 will be indistinguishable from the original, as will the other three options you listed.

define "best," and let us know what your use is going to be

for ~100 songs or so for your portable, and your player supports it, I like vorbis.  if you're talking about 1000 songs for your local PC, mp3 is a better bet, since it is universal to all players, and will basically never go extinct
