I'm buying my first DAC and would like to have some feedback on which of these 2 would be my best choice. Both are less than $100 and they were recommended by friends that have them. I just want to be certain that I will get the best performance for my money from a reliable source.

1)... HiFimeDIY Sabre USB DAC 2 (external PSU) Asynchronous

2)... SMSL SD793-II PCM1793 DIR9001 DAC Digital Audio Decoder Amplifier

I'm pretty new in this so I would appreciate if your explanation where in simple non-technical terms (English is my second language).

My audio set-up is the following:

... Toshiba Satellite P845-S4200 PC with Wins 7-64

... NAD 304 integrated amp

... NAD 412 AM/FM stereo tuner

... ONKYO R1 DX-703 CD player

... ELAC B6 Debut bookshelf speaker

... headphones AKG 240

You can check-out both DAC's HERE....

Years ago I bought about 4 SMSL DACs, not happy with their reliability.
So I say go for the Hifimediy products.

Hi...

Okay.... That's one powerful reason not to get the SMSL DACs. Just wondering if you took a look at the Hifimediy specs? I would appreciate if you did and give me your opinion.

thanks for your time
George
