Iphone 3G have the Best sound from headphone line out.
After it's ipod classic and then Ipod Video.
Just my own experience.

The ipod classic 120GB is an excellent sounding DAP. It works equally good throughout the frequency band. It has no weaknesses except possibly for its limited EQ. I know I am satisfied with mine.
