Which ipod classic?

So I'm between the newest current ipod classic and the previous gen.
Is there any difference rly? I'm buying a refurbished ipod from apple.

It's between the:
120gb for 190$
or
160gb for 200$

Which would u get?

compared to new for 250$

well 10 bucks for an extra 40 gigs would be crazy to pass up if you ask me. Id have to go with the 160.

I haven't heard the new ipod classic but from what I read the newest ipod classic is supposed to have a huge upgrade in sound quality in the headphone out, since it's based on the iphone 3gs design which is a huge improvement from the old ipod designs.

well im not sure which is 6g or 7g bc the one with more gb is labeled "previous gen" so idk, ill just call.

Go with the 2009 generation and you'll get 3gs sound like from the HP out but with 160 gigs of space.

Here is information about the difference between 6G and 7G 160GB iPods. Also, latest 6G firmware is 1.1.2 while 7G firmware is 2.0.4. v2.0.4 has the Genius feature added to the 7G model which can be readily seen at the top of the Music|Playlist area. I do prefer the sound of the 7G headphone out to the 6G especially when I use SE530/e5c/PortaPros headphones. Although I am an ecletic listener, I am preferring more downtempo and trip-hop music (e.g. Zero 7, Thievery Corporation, etc.) nowadays which can have a lot of layers. I like the 7G most for this type of music plus the 7G is lighter to carry. YMMV.

I am still confused as far as what audio chip the Classic has. I thought both have the Cirrus chip. Could you guy please complete the following? Thanks

Is only the latest classic based on the iPhone 3GS or also the latest touch? If they are both based on the iPhone 3GS, does the latest classic and latest touch have the same sound quality?

It's worth noting that the Genius Mix feature was added in a software update. so there's that. I skipped a few generations, so i'm not sure when the ability to 'browse artist/browse album' and turn on shuffle on the current song screen w/o having to go through the menus were introduced, but those are really great additions. I believe 6g has that stuff though.

Yea I read that the G7 SQ is great and on par with the iPhone 3GS... wow I really wish I remembered what the title of that thread was... but yea the G7 iPod has great SQ out of the headphone jack.

If I wasn't getting a T51 I'd definitely get one of those.

Hi quick question to anyone with a 7G iPod. With iOS4 and the iPhone/iPod Touch, Apple tweaked the eq settings so the long standing distortion issue was finally fixed. Has this been resolved with firmware for the iPod Classic as well?

I personally find the 3rd revision of the 6th Gen Classic (2009 and what everyone else calls the 7th gen) headphone output fairly ordinary, compared to the 2nd gen touch. I was disappointed after hearing on this site how good it sounded.
