Hi everyone,
I am new to this board. I wanted to get a set of replacement headphones for my iPod. Currently I have the stock earbuds for working out, cylcing, general use & I have a set of Senn PXC250 for use in coffee shops and studying.

I really like the sound of the Sennheisers & they isolate pretty good, but i want something more portable for working out, cycling, and general use. A few headphones I have been looking at are the Senn MX400, Senn PX200 (but it may be bigger than what i am looking for), Apple in ear phones, Sony EX71, Sure E3c.

Would I be pretty happy with the MX400? Should I spen the extra money and get in ear canal phones?

The other thing, looking at this forum is getting me curious about other headphones as well... this could be very bad.

<edit> oh sorry. I guess I vote for the PX100's then. They sound amazing and are cheap to boot.

I got to listen to the Apple in-ear buds recently. Terrible, really. Not as good as the stock buds.

Ety ER6 seems like a good match. That gives you upgrade room for the ER4S later.

If you get serious about larger phones the Ultrasone HFI650 are just a blast with the ipod.

Go for the E3 or Ety ER-6. I would run away from the Apple in-ears and the EX71 if I were you. True canalphones will give you great isolation and pair well with the iPod. I started off a few years ago with the ER-6 and a 5GB iPod. This was my starter kit and I have since moved to the ER-4P and E5 with a 3G and miniPod.

Hide that damn wallet before you get it in too much trouble.

Etymotic 4P, come on, you know you want to... match made in heaven in my book (unless you want to add a second set of cans for "groovalising").

Another great reason I often go for my etys over my portapros (my groovalisers at the moment, soon to be upgraded I hope) is that the etys run at VERY low volume and seem to allow a bit more time out of the ipod battery, maybe 30-60 minutes more. I must do a real test.

Have fun choosing and don't forget the 2 year warranty on the etys.

Koss KSC-35?

I know, I know, iPod user, style conscious, etc... But why no give them a try? If not the PX100 seems to offer 99% of the sonic performance with 2000% of the style, only with a headband as opposed to earclips.

do you really want phones that isolate for cycling the way canalphones are supposed to? i have the impression that most head-fiers who want headphones they can use while jogging, cycling, etc., believe phones that isolate that much are dangerous for those activities. i have no idea what any of the phones mentioned thus far sound like, including the senns you like. that being said, the koss headphones mentioned by bangraman seem to have been very favorably received by a lot of people with very different tastes in music. or do what i'm doing and try out the aiwa swoops currently listed at audiocubes. i just got the earclip style and they're not bad for just knocking around - somewhat boomy bass and a bit of loss on the highs, but they seem to do most of the essentials okay and they're relatively inexpensive. i think they're going to work pretty well with the iPod mini that i've ordered.

Do yourself a favor. Buy one set and don't ever wonder what it would be like to upgrade. ER4p's!!!

I use them everytime I'm on my motorcycle. I even use them on the race track. I concentrate better when I'm listening to music and not wind noise and high revving engines. Just my $.02. Everyone is different.

I've heard very good things about the Shure E3c. Just bought a pair from TTVJ, but don't have 'em yet. I'll return and post my impressions once I have them.

Hard to go wrong with Ety's, based on my limited experience with them. Also heard the Senn PX100, and liked it...but it's still a cheap alternative to REAL cans, which for portable appications probably means in-the-ear.

Heard the E5c in Chicago last October, and liked them a lot. Could say the same about the Ety's too.

I'm not a big fan of in-the-ear stuff, but for exercising and other truly portable (i.e. not luggable, like a work rig) applications, they really can't be beat.

Quick plug for TTVJ on the Shure's...he was the one (along with Sugarfried) who introduced me to them at the Chicago meet. I feel good enough about the E3c's based on what I've heard from others who I respect that I just went ahead and bought some.

I know....sorry about my wallet...
