I don't know what source equipment you have, but the 800s becomes much better for music with vocals with a tube amp. OTL tube amps can be found on the cheap and are likely worth trying since it's also great for the hd6XX line.
Monoprice also makes a monolith THX integrated amp with DIRAC and it works so well with vocal forward music you'll probably love it. Takes the words out of your head and puts it in front of you.
