Hi, I'm limiting this question to the Grado SR series (SR60-SR325i) and the two lower Alessandros (MS1 & MS2i), so no RS / HF / PS / HP etc. What are your opinions?

Im going to say the 225's.
The 325's may physically have more bass, but to my ears its not as prominent as that of the 225's due to the presence of what I consider to be overwhelming brightness.

Edit:Wer'e talking ampless here, right? Amps completely change the rules...

I'd say the SR-325i has the most bass impact of the lot ampless. IMO. They also seem a little less bright than the SR-225 to me.

Changing to flats also helps.

The 325i had a definite edge in the bass impact over the 225 to my ears. However, the 325i was also ruthlessly revealing. If you're listening to material that has flaws in the recording, you're probably better off with the 225. If you want clarity and bass impact, I'd go with the 325i.

I never got the chance to try the 325i with a tube amp, but something tells me that might be a real good combination.

What about if I limit the choices to Grado SR225, SR325i and Alessandro MS2i?

I had all the cans you mention, plus others, and all of them have very similar bass impact, but different, of course. The biggest difference, is in the quality, not quantity!! Your best bet, is to fidle around with various pads, and placements, to try and achive your desired sound.

I found that the HF-1 has much more bass and has more impact than the SR-225 that I used to own. I couldn't use bowls with the SR-225 due to the lack of bass but with the HF-1s the bowls are my pads of choice.

I have well burned SR80s and new MS2is with about six hours on them.
They don't remotely resemble each other sonically.
The SR80 loses the comparison in pretty embarrassing style: thin, harsh, flat.
But they didn't sound like that before the MS2is, which I think are quite dark

And the MS2is wallop some pretty serious tight and extended bass, with a feeling of more-in-reserve. But they aren't "bassy" cans in the way that my HD650s were.

Funny you sould bring that up as i was thinking the same thing with the 325i not so long ago being bright and all based on reports.Maybe some tube changes or different IC's might help.

That's a good point. Maybe I'll save a bit more before I get the SR-325i and get both the cans and a tube amp.

Try not to buy headphones based on what people say.

People's expectations of bass may be different depending on the type of music they listen to and their types of ears.

A lot of people say the HD555's got a lot of bass. I didn't hear any.

Your best bet is to go somewhere and try it. If not go to headphone.com, they let you try headphones for 30 days.

Everyone's got different ears... none of them are like yours

You're not wrong, but I read several posts about ms1 and I wasn't disappointed... after break in, I should admit.
