I'll be getting a Zune HD here shortly, and I was looking into some Fiio amps and was wondering which would be the best for me. I haven't been keeping track of the newest ones, the last one I had was an E3 and I know an E5 came out but I haven't really looked in to it. I also know some new ones have come out and wanted to know if they were any better.

E7 (amp+DAC) has been in the market for a while now. E9 is a desktop amp so it probably won't fit your need. E11, which is FiiO's attempt to higher end market, will probably be out by first half of next year, but there isn't any confirmed date yet.

What exactly does a DAC do? Is it worth the extra money over an E5?
