need help please.. upgraditis bug has bitten.
have some money to spend. am looking to buy a DAC and pair it with my emu0404/cambridge azur 640c v2 - little dot ii / headfive (coming soon) - senn HD650 / ms2i / er4p-s
everyone is saying how good the zhaolu sounds, and its bang for buck value. then there is the Storm D02 dac which is quite a bit more expensive. has anyone had an extensive amount of listening time with both amps to be able to make a good comparison between the two?
on one hand the zhaolu seems to be value for money, but there are so many options/modules to choose from, different opamps etc etc. i'm definitely not going to be using the headphone out from the zhaolu so no need for the headphone amp upgrade option. i dont know about you guys but i prefer the look of the v1.3 amp over the new v2.0. final price would depend on which options to choose. and whats this about having another upgrade board option that is currently not yet available? "PCM-1794 Upgrade Board and headphone Amp Upgrade will be availbale few months later!" taken from http://www.diykits.com.hk/dac.html
the storm D02 simply looks great on the whole.. i wrote to Ken and he said there weren't any available options on the amp. total including delivery to Singapore would set me back US$465
are there any other DACs i should be looking at? the Lavry / Benchmark pricerange is a bit out of my reach.
