Which "closed" headphones to buy?

As you already got the amp, just grab AKG K271S. I've probably tried all closed available under $500, nothing comes close to those babies. I'd also recommend to get velour pads for them, available from AKG and headroom.

You can easily afford D2000 with that budget, or maybe try the Ultrasone Hfi780, the FOTM cans right now. They both have amazing reviews by well known headfiers

DENON AH-D1001: After reading all the input and taking some from a friend who I respect, I ended up purchasing these phones. I've had them one day and, so far, I love them. They are light in weight, very comfortable, my wife does not complain of any sound leakage and the SQ is very accurate based on the few well-known CDs that I listened to. They definitely fill the bill insofar as what I was looking for. Thanks to all who gave input.

Cool....I was leaning on those myself, but I wanted some low down dirty bass.
Glad you are happy though.
