Hello:

I presently am very happy with my set-up, using Senn 595 headphones with a Little Dot solid state amp. Maybe not the best, but I like it.

My problem is that, on occasion, the sound spillover from the Senn's disturb others who are near me. I'd appreciate your advice as to which pair of "closed" phones I should consider so as to get solid quality without annoying others.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I was going to suggest the HD 280 Pros (like I always do

) but I think they'd actually be a bit of a step backwards from your current setup. I hear Beyerdynamic makes some good closed cans.

L3000 FTW!

but seriousely, why not denon D2000s? Little too much bass for my taste, but very smooth cans.

I love my ES7s but these are love/hate cans - some people can't stand gnarly mids and sparkly highs.

If you like Bassy cans, DT770 80ohms have great punch.

What type of music do you listen to btw?

I was about to say A700's but the a900's are nice if you can afford them!

You didn't list a budget!!!!!!!!!
In that case, just pick up the R10 and be done with it!

Ok, lets pretend your budget is around 200$us. Seriously consider the Sennheiser HD25-1 II headphones. They sound quite nice (though a bit bassier than neutral), especially for the price.

I've had the Beyer DT770pro, and find the HD25-1 II to be quite a bit better. And don't even mention the HD280pro, they are not even close in terms of an enjoyable sonic signature.
Denon D2000 is another choice, but you should try them out because the sound is not for everyone. Same goes for the Ultrasone (I didn't like them that much).

I am very happy with my HD25-1 II. With the velour pads, they are quite comfy. Nice sound, and have a fair amount of isolation.
I'd certainly recommend them for the price.

Keep us posted on what you decide.

In response to one poster's inquiry, I listen to jazz, both vocal and instrumental. I also listen to groups like Sting, Dave Matthews, etc.

Thanks for all your input. It's helpful.

I listen to very similar music in similar circumstances and the Ultrasone HFI-680's are doing it for me. They provide a good seal, little leakage and great sound (if you like the Ultrasone sound sig, that is of course).

Someone recently mentioned to me that the Denon AH-D1001 K phones are serious contenders as well. They are supposedly quite comfortable, unlike the Senn HD25-1 II's. Does anyone use the Denon AH-D10001 phones and, if so, how do you like them. Thanks.

(D1000K) On a scale of 1 to 10. The sound isolation is about a 5 but the sound leakage about a 9. I get these rocking pretty loud at work and people can't even tell what i'm listening to. Very ideal for work.

HD280's are head clamps and dont sound quite as good IMO. Exceptional isolation though.
