K240 is very comfy for long hours of listening. But they lack bass.

The MDR V6 is the best I've heard at it's price range.  There are minimal improvements as you go up in price (though only some improve).  I'd recommend the V6, though it does sound very different than the HD598. Buy the valour pads and they are EXTREMELY comfortable.  The most comfortable closed can I can remember (more comfortable than the 1r).  They're here: http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-DT250-Replacement-Earpads-Velour/dp/B003Y59WNE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1382639406&sr=8-4&keywords=dt250+velour+pads

I was wondering how the K240 compared to the mdr7506. (i also noticed that the mdrv6s are more expensive. are these headphones any different than the mdrv6s?)
do the krk6400s or srh440s compare to the above headphones at all?
any other suggestions for $100 or less? I'm coming from a hd598. I like a somewhat flat, detailed, natural sound, but at the same time I want to hear the drums and cymbals a lot.
I would also like them to be somewhat comfortable. I know the hd598s spoil me in this department.

Originally Sony had the MDR-V6, but then replaced the MDR-V6s with the MDR-7506 model, but a good number of people preferred the MDR-V6 sound over the MDR-7605, so Sony relaunched the MDR-V6s, so Sony currently sells both models. I guess in general the designs are the same, but the 7506 comes with separate ground wires (4 wires total), were as the V6's use just three wires (shared ground wire) and they each use different material in their diaphragms, the 7605 is ever so slightly brighter and the V6 ever so slightly bassier

Personally I can't understand why someone that already has the Sennheiser HD598s would consider buying the other headphones you have listed.
What sources (DACs and Amps) you currently plug headphones into?

I know that's the thing I'm really gonna miss about my hd598s.

Do you know if the mdrv7506s are the same headphones as the mdrv6s, because they're considerably cheaper right now?

You sure the k240s aren't better than the mdrvs?

Anyone got a new pair of headphones they would like to trade for my hd598s? I'll accept a trade and money if they're much cheaper (such as a k240 or mdrv6). We can work something out.

Theyre the same thing.

I'm listening straight out of a laptop. I just can't see why I spent so much money on them when they don't sound much better than my apple ear buds. Sure, the apple ear buds distort some sounds, but they're really similar sounding.

k240 vs sony mdrv?

Gemini HSR-1000 (Takstar Pro 80), closed headphones, $50-$60.
