Right now i'm in the process of figuring out what to upgrade my Klipsch 2.1 to. I'm going to be sitting around 2 feet away from the speakers. The speakers will be on my desk 4 ft apart.

I was thinking about Paradigm Atoms or Studio 20s or may be Axiom M22ti. Are the latter two too big to be put on my desk and listened to at 2 ft distance.

Also as far as amps go. Do you think its best to use Chaintech 710 optical with Panasonic XR25 or EMU 0404 analog with Sonic Impact.

What is the difference between EMU 0404 and CHainter 710 digital out. Is there a one?

Thanks

Not enough space for bookshelf speakers, period.

I would recommend many other amps before that panasonic, you are trying to go too cheap there. I would go with E-MU and analog outs with a better amp, I think you should maybe consider waiting, or investing more into your headphone setup, your room is not ideal even remotely for a decent bookshelf setup.

Also consider looking into maybe powered near-field monitor speakers, lots of options there aswell. More ideal for what you need.

Exactly what I was thinking.

That's what you want to look into for your space requirements

I think at least 5 ft away. Ive gotten good results like that BUT you need to pad your walls to absorb reflections. Also stay away from corners as they tend to reinforce the sound.

The FPS 200M might work in your space. Or some small speaker like Polk R15.
You can get the Genelec 1029A if you want something better.

Do you think that monitors are too unforgiving with bad quality source. I mostly listen to rock, and I will use EMU 0404 as source. Most of my mp3s are either 192kbps or VBR200 kbps. So far Event TR25 looks like the best speaker for me. Any other suggestions?

You want more forgiving? Go for the Event TR5, as you mentioned. The BX5 has tipped up treble. Great for monitoring flaws on the cheap, but for listening, consider the Events first, IMO.
