I have heard that the Beyers really shine with electronic/dance music.
If price is not a consideration, which model is preferred? DT-770 DT-880 DT-990 ? Also, I keep seeing references to 2005 models being more desirable. Why is this and does this mean from 2005 and on or specifically only made in 2005?

It means 2005 on. Ie., the new models.

For electronica/dance - 2005 model DT-990 or, if you want a bit more bass at the expense of a bit of mids and air, the pre-2005 model DT-770.

If you get the 250 or 600 ohm versions, you'll need a beefy amp too.

So for the 770/880/990, what are all the possible versions, in terms of year and ohms and other distinctions?

How is the DT-880 2005 model compare to the DT-990?

The DT-880 is similar to the DT-990 except it's been tuned to be more "neutral" and "flat". The DT-990 has accentuated lows and highs which would emphasize the beats and rhythms in electronic music.

One thing I would definitely consider with anyone who listens to music where bass is of utmost importance is a headphone amp. Bass response (along with everything else) i've found is significantly improved.

hmmmm. that is not the most important thing in electronic. you have to know to whom you are speaking. i love electronic music with dead-on sound and not overaccentuated in anything. as much as the dt770 and 990 are wonderful and may fit your listening habits, the deadpan presentation of the dt880 250 are among my favourite ever.

I've got the DT770, 80 ohm. Really does the job for electronic music, although in certain genres the bass may be too massive for some.

It does the job in providing the impact that many want from electronica.... I feel like I'm standing in front of a big rig while listening to em.!

I have both the 880's and the 770's.
For the music you listen to, the 770's are much more fun.
That said, the 880's are a better headphone overall (more refinred).
The slam and raw energy of the 770's sure is fun and I like them for electronic, chill, club, etc.

X+1 on the DT770 Pro 80. That's the ticket for electronica.
