Which amps are best matched with the LCD-2 for under $1000?

The ALO Pan Am is said to be, almost unanimously, the one of the best pairings with the LCD-2 out there. I thought it was great with mine, but neck pain caused by the LCD-2 forced me to upgrade to the HD800, which also does very well with the Pan Am.

The WA7 Firefly may be an option to consider, too.

Yeah, I was told more than once that with a Lyr you can't go wrong when it comes to LCD-2. However, I'm not possessing this combination yet, but going to buy'em soon. Will interesting to see what can I bring out of this combo using my laptop as source.

What DAC do you have? If you don't have one, I would advise purchasing the WA7. Though I only was able to listen to it for a around 8 min, I thought it easily outclassed the Pan Am in all departments.

My ears preferred the Pan Am over the Lyr. If you ever end up purchasing a new, non-Audez'e can, then something versatile like the WA7 would be best.

What DAC do you have?

I currently have 3 sources (see my signature).
1) A turntable
2) A CDP (Ayon CD5s)
3) A computer connected via USB-->M2Tech EVO-->S/PDIF to the Ayon's CD5s internal DAC.

In that case, the Lyr ought to do fine. If you do plan on upgrading or switching cans, then...well...it's always a good idea to consider other options.

I liked the LCD + Soloist combo when I had it.  I've seen the Soloist go for as low as $650 on the FS forums here.

^ The Soloist SL is cheaper and might be available for discount on some of the sites it's sold on around the upcoming holidays (i.e., Black Friday), like Front End Audio and Moon Audio. Front End Audio especially has 10% off discounts regularly around holidays.
 
There's also the Garage1217 Project Ember, which is cheaper than the Lyr. The specs on it look awesome for driving almost any pair of headphones, whether dynamic or planar magnetic.
