Hi ! first of all a clarification ...
i am only interested in a plain amp able to work on batteries .. no dac attached
i am currently using this amp here
https://www.amazon.it/Amplificatore-Portatile-Auricolari-Smartphone-Alimentazione/dp/B07GGPP72V/ref=sr_1_8?__mk_it_IT=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&crid=F5LV5V1O8Y2R&dchild=1&keywords=amplificatore+cuffie+portatile&qid=1604748649&sprefix=amplificatore+cuffie+por,aps,324&sr=8-8
listening through a pair of Sennheiser HD 206 i am quite impressed by its cleaness when using its battery
So i am intrigued by these little portable amps a lot now
What would be a sensible step-up in sound quality ? and possibly at different price levels ?
keeping the same HPs that i quite like

Thanks a lot, gino

If you just need an amp I use a topping nx2 to push music from my phone. Works well and can also work as a dac if you want. IMG_20201107_092257097.jpg

Hi ! thanks for the kind and valuable advice. I understand that the Topping NX series is a very good one ?
In the Topping Audio site
https://www.tpdz.net/products
i see a NX1, NX3, NX4 and NX5 and i wonder which is the hiearchy sound quality wise
in the meantime i have found a thread here about the NX series
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/topping-nx5.819123/
I am trying to make up my mind now
As i said at the beginning i am quite excited because i have been surprised by the sound quality of the above mentioned 20USD unit
https://www.amazon.com/eSynic-Headp...=1&keywords=ESYNiC+HiFi&qid=1604822328&sr=8-3
I cannot imagine how better units can sound
i am coming back to HP listening because i have moved to a flat where the neighbours are very touchy about noise and i use to watch Netflix movies late at night

Hi ! in the end i have decided for this one cheaper same brand
https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B07DK5Q52C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
to save some little money also because i have invested also in this one for more serious listenings
https://www.amazon.it/TOPPING-L30-Amplificatore-preamplificatore-risoluzione/dp/B08DNV2K8C
The little NX1s will be delivered on next monday
I will use it exclusively with a laptop and its low quality output
It looks like a really great brand this Topping
Thanks a lot again for pointing me to the brand
Kind regards,
gino

I picked up an iBasso P5 Falcon a little while ago for $399 new. It can be used as a portable and a desktop amp with the power supply. Nice setup IMO and far out-preforms most portable amps I've tried. Plus the cost isn't over the top like some gear.

Hi ! what a beauty indeed ... clearly a more upscale product

1_564873.jpg

also an op-amps roller's dream ... as i am
I promise myself to dedicate me more to these little HP amps. They have a huge potential for great sound depending on the load of course.
As i am also an experimenter i have a very nasty idea ... to use one of this at low gain to buffer some tube line stages of which i like the sound but that have too high output impedance. I know a weird idea. But i am impressed by how clean these little amps can sound.
I will keep it in mind for an upgrade
