Just got an Oppo HA-1...to use mostly as DAC; but I figure I should take advantage, by trying my first decent pair of phones.
 
AKG K702/65 or K712Pro?

The K 712 is an excellent can.  However at least in the U.S., the Q 701 offers the best value.

IMO the K712 doesn't really justify its price against the Q701, you would be better off with the Q701.

I recently re-bought the K702's.
 
 
Those I had about a year ago were made in Austria;
these are made in China.
 
Though it's based on memory, I have to say I like these more.
For one thing, the main reason I sold the first set was the lack
of bass.  These do not lack bass to my ears; it's very comparable
in fact to the bass of the K712's.  Seems like AKG might have
done some (unannounced) tweaking to the Made in China 702's
because I really don't recall the originals sounding this good.
 
And at about $225, IMO they're a fantastic deal.
 
(I owned the Q701's twice and really didn't like them very much
compared to the 702's and the 712's.)
