I've never understood why people went APE, before or after it became open source, but the Cowon iAudio D2 is listed at DAPReview as "perhaps even APE support." Not sure where that came from. Otherwise just convert to another lossless. Especially for portable use (where lossless is questioned itself), APE advantages won't show over FLAC or ALAC.
