So I want to get better sound out of my covers streaming and iPhone with my Sony earbuds. I don’t want to have to pack around an extra pound of gear, so where would you go from here?

Can you recommend a dac? Maybe a combo iem/dac solution? Can a DAC be Bluetoothed to my phone?

It'll come down to how much you want to spend and what type of sound signature you like.

The Sony is worth some money, if you don't need to keep them. How much depends on condition and if you have all accessories and packaging.

What dongle dac would you recommend if I was to go with the Sennheiser IE8s

For a first wired iem and since you have an iPhone, I'd just get the Apple dongle to start. It's cheap and you'll have room to upgrade once you figure out what you want more of.
