Yo seriously people!

Where can I get a matched and tested pair of NOS Mullard M8161 military spec (not civilian) with the full large shield on them?

You just need to start emailing and/or calling tube dealers. No one will be able to tell you the inventory of a particular type type.

read up.

Thats just compatibility. That tube is the Mullard CV131 which is different from the Mullard 8161. All those equal signs mean is that the tubes are interchangeable. But the real point is that they sound different.

Maybe the Mullard m8161s are overrated. There are plenty other tubes that are easily found and could be better. Be a pioneer and not a follower!

This auction is for a matched pair of Two (2) high quality Mullard CV131 / 6CQ6 vacuum tubes compatible with EF92 on the LDII+ / LDII++ / MkII / MkIII / MkIV / LDI+ headphone amplifiers. These tubes are the civilian-branded equivalent of the popular Mullard M8161 tubes and were both manufactured in the same Mullard factory using the same design. This matched pair had been tested and matched on my Hickcock TV-7B/U tube tester for best sound quality and reliability. These tubes have the Mullard factory codes etched on the glass but the Mullard Shield logo has faded due to age, they are mechanically and sonically perfect. 30 day return.

Just get the large shield civilian tube from Yen. They sound fantastic compared to the small shield CV4015's. The mil spec 8161's are not easy to find and will cost you quite a few bucks and I bet don't sound any better than the civilian variant (which are manufactured on the same line).

That text above is pulled from Yen's eBay page for the tube pair he has. 50US for a matched pair is a decent price for these. Yen is a good guy to get genuine NOS tubes from. A lot of eBay stuff is used and unmatched/untested beyond the cursory.

Peete.

have you handled these first hand? an M8161 tube sometimes will also have CV4015 or 6065 printed on the back. they are the same. Just sold two pairs here not too long ago.
