Since the biggest cost factor in cables is the labor I'm considering making my own cable for my HD650. I asked around but the plugs that go into the headphone seem to be proprietary. Where could I buy these? Does anyone have any experience making their own HD650 cable?

You need to buy stock HD-650 cable, cut off the connectors (those that plug into the phones), and hack them apart so that you can solder your wires direct to the pins.

The most popular way of doing it is to leave the plugs alone and cut the wire off close to the plugs, then solder the new wires on to the short piece of original wire.

The best way I've seen is if you heat the connectors so the plastic becomes soft, you can slide the gold pins in and out. That way you don't have to cut the plug open.


You have to start off with a senn headphone cable, otherwise you will have to make your own plugs.
