I've meddled with eBay, a few off shore companies with large bulk orders in the company of friends.
But not all sites post to Australia, and the postage usually kills the cheap price.

Any tips/ hints/ places?

Hi

I was facing a similar problem a few weeks ago when I was in the market for a new set of IEMs.

I put up in Adelaide and there are not a lot of shops out here that stock Audiophile grade equipment. So my only option was to purchase one online from a reputed retailer.

I searched around in a few forums and the ones below came up highly recommended.

 http://www.addictedtoaudio.com.au/

http://www.jaben.com.au/

http://www.minidisc.com.au/

http://www.accessoryjack.com/

I have purchased from minidisc and addicted to audio directly and can vouch for them.

I've bought from a number of places, but Marcus' prices have improved in line with our dollar - he is more expensive for some things and cheaper for others. End of the day, I know I can trust him to deliver - sadly, the same cant be said of Australia Post.

Several of the online vendors targetting Australian Head-Fiers are based elsewhere - if you want to support Australian businesses, thats a consideration - at least give them the opportunity  to match someone else's price. If not, does it really matter where Australians are getting their gear ? The Net is as anonymous and multinational as any corporation on earth.

+1 Addicted to audio. Jaben is not as cheap, but offer good in store service.

I almost bought a pair of cheap Denon 5000s from an online 'Australian supplier', turned out they were being shipped direct from China. Perhaps they were fine, but it scared me off.

Actually that has happened with me a few times. I have ordered stuff from eBay, where the seller is listed as Australian. But the items were shipped from China. I now try to avoid eBay as much as I can.

It is always worthwhile to order from a reputed seller online. You might have to pay a little extra. But u will be assured of a genuine product.
