I currently have the Sennheiser HD650s (balanced), and the Audio Technica ATH-AD2000s which I bought out of curiosity about a week ago from MarkyMark.
The problem now is that I bought them as a possible upgrade, and yet when I listen to one I can't stop thinking about what I like in the other set.
I'm no expert, but I'll describe what I can (I will probably update these descriptions).
It is difficult as there are songs that should sound better on one but are actually nicer on the other...damn all of this is so complicated.
For the AD2000s I like:
The comfort
The solid build quality
The mids "coloration", detail and presence
The "tame" treble - no sibilance issues
There's a bit more low bass, so these have some more rumble, but the mid bass can seem tame in some songs.
With my HD650s I like:
Mid bass, more power
They sound quite natural (not counting sibilance)
The laidback, open sound
Certain sounds seem to be more..real?
Drum sounds have a little more snap to them
There's something fun about them
I'm looking for something with what I see to be the pros of each set of headphones, possibly with a bigger soundstage, and maybe more low/mid bass than either of these.
Ideally it wouldn't press on my jaw like the HD650s.
What do you think I need, or should try out?
