When will it be possible to simulate tube sound by DSP? What will it take to do so?

Tube sound for guitar is much easier, IME, though. I notice subtle differences with SS and tube amps, but the huge one is that beautiful distortion, which is relatively easy to add digitally in some way, but It doesn't come close to real tubes.

The problem for phones and speakers is that there really is no "tube sound". Amps vary wildly in design and construction, and because of this there is no set tube sound. There is the stereotypical warm, rolled off highs and lows sound, but the truly high end tube amps that I have heard did not really exhibit those characteristics.
