I'll be receiving my first headphone-amp in the next few weeks I assume. I was just wondering, if using a cd-player as the source, is it ok to connect the headphone amp via RCA directly to the cd player, or is it better to connect to say the tape-outs on the back of an integrated amp if both options are available.

Would you explain the pros and conns of both please?

Line out from the CDP to the amp is the way to go...the line out RCA is an unamplified signal.
Pros: least amount of stuff/cleanest signal path. Minimalist. If the headamp has an output (besides headphones), you can use it as a preamp.
Cons: depending on how many out options you have on the CDP, you may not be able to connect it to the rest of your system.

Going through the tape out is good too, and allows you to use the reciever as a preamp. Basically the flip-side of the pros and cons above...it's just a matter of wether or not you want to keep the CDP in the equipment chain, or have it solely for headphone lovin'...
