I'm still a bit confused & was hoping someone can illuminate me here. 90% of my CD cllection is fremastered blues & rock recordings from the 60/70's. Given that, am I best, in regards to audio quality getting a DAC (or CD player with this DAC) that: 1. Doesn't upsample or oversample, 2. Upsamples but doesn't oversample, 3. Oversamples but doesn't upsamples? For what types of recordings is a DAC that oversamples, upsamples, or both appropriate?

Generally NOS versus Upsampling or oversampling is regarded as a matter of opinion. NOS DACs have a reputation for being less detailed, but some would argue that the lack of oversampling is a more pure rendition of the signal. All upsampling DACs are oversampling, but not all oversampling DACs are upsampling. Upsampling is a more sophisticated form of oversampling, if that makes sense.
