Self explanatory from the thread title, I would like to get a listen to the little ones in 001 or 003 guise through the portable amp which gets mixed reception and perhaps through one of the home-energisers as well. I'm in Surrey and I can't find anywehre on the web where I can go along and take a look and listen.

Separately, I will look out for HE60 as mentioned by Carl but in the meantime I can feel a pair of SR-404 coming my way. Again, in the UK, if one were to bypass Stax energisers what kind of amp have any UK users gone for which they feel are superior. It strikes me tha tif choosing Egmont or another respected alternative it's blind purchasing form overseas only.

Thanks in anticipation.

I guess I want to hear one Carl, I'm not comfortable buying anything without trying first where something like audio is concerned. If it's a high street store shifting volume of many things I won't have a conscious about importing without warranty. If it's a dealer who invests a bit of time and attention then I would not dirty on them by buying elsewhere.

I just have no idea how they sound compared with my Senn HD600, the bigger Stax I have been trying and the various experiences over the years of on-ear and in-ear portable types. I don't like the in-ear types despite the isolation but office and portable listening has an appeal. It's the listening I do the least purely because quality has always fallen so far behind home (and car) set-ups.

The Stax with the highest-res settings of something like the Sony rivals to the iPod just might get me into mobile listening again. No point trusting what I read either, an awful lot of opinions are from folks who don't have the same reference points of kit and preferences.

Ah, that would be the chap who actually runs more than one business but it's better to present yourself as a focused specialist by presenting an illusion of exclusivity.

Some folk misconstrue that there is a sanctioned connection when actually the UK distributor is a chap named Nigel Crump trading as Symmetry. I have spoken to Nigel befoe on the home-based products and he has a list of official dealers but the SR-001 range seems to be aimed at a different market and I therefore assumed there were likely to be another set of retail outlets in high streets across the UK. I will probably go back to Nigel and enquire.

Stone Audio are too far away but thanks anyway.
