just wondering if anyone has tried them. Also was wondering how good they were with the Grado phones since everyone likes tube amps with them. thanks

For $450? No way.
This is why there are so many clones of the RA-1 in China.

Just get yourself a CMOY and its responsing opamp if you're curious how a RA-1 sounds; RA-1 is like a decorated cmoy. I would not pay $400 premium for a wood enclosure just so I could have it aesthetically match my RS1..

Wow...that's all that is inside one of those? I have never handled or heard one, only seen one at my dealer. What a rip off. I like the idea of building a CMoy or other similar well regarded amp inside a nice box though. If nothing else...the RA1 does look pretty.

When I went to a local Grado dealer (fine, a retailer that carries Grado among other things) and discussed about the RA-1, the clerk downright acknowledged that "yep, there ain't much going on in there".
At least they could use an Alps, or a better 1/4" jack, or not use glue to conceal the act...

It does its job, making things louder or quieter. I like it with Grado phones.
