What's your biggest headphone dissapointment?

A great many IEMs. I had to give up trying IEMs at the Tokyo shows, unless they were recommended to me by certain people, because most were just nothing special. I mostly refuse IEM reviews now because I'm tired of repeated disappointment.

Amos, if it's not a secret (and apologies for a slight derail), if you had to keep just one IEM set, what would it be?

I know the question was not for me, but, I would keep either the Shure KSE 1200 or the JVC HA-FDX1 (Drop Edition). :)

That's a tough question. Given I haven't tried many brands of IEMs (most notably 64Audio) at least of the ones I have, I'd either buy a pair of Sony IER-Z1R or Campfire Andromeda MW10. Possibly the Dunu Luna though, given how small and light they are, which would make it more realistic that I'd actually use them.

I had a Headphile HP3000 at one point. It was a Sony CD3000 with aftermarket wooden cups and Grado HP1000 drivers installed in it. I think I had it in around 2006 or 2007 and it was just awful. I loved the HP1000, I'd heard a ton of them, and I liked the comfort of the CD3000. But this wasn't either- it was so laid back and unengaging even the most dynamic song would put me to sleep.

I have two and in the demo process they both were amazingly disappointing? Cascade was not anything like I had read it to be like? Maybe it was something to do with the midrange? Forwards mids maybe? Also for $800 the price was just a silly joke. IMO

Next was the Noble Khan. My favorite IEM is the prior (to the Khan) flagship from Noble called the Encore. The Encore for me is/was what feels like finding the long lost unicorn in this hobby. I’m so inspired I almost want to post in the Noble thread daily with emotion! Love them!

This must be personal sound-signature taste as many admire the Khan?

I found it way too mid-forward. Then on top of that they placed a bright aspect to the treble. It’s not just bright, but thin, adding to the feeling of the mid-boost. It’s like detail synthetically generated due to annoying treble? Add to that the form factor was hard to get used to. I’m glad people are happy with the Khan, for the price I hope they are.
