I keep looking at these on Google shopping, and I just can't figure out why they are so far under MSRP, and so far under the price of their competitors (Senn 650s, AD2000, D-5000, etc.)

Is there a new model out that will cause these to go out of stock, or is it something else? Does anyone know if the 702's are still being manufactured?

These are an extremely tempting buy at $260 - so much so that I'm considering selling my HD590's and my dt250's and picking up a pair to compliment my RS1i's.

Or you may think that way: that the other headphones are just overpriced.

I got my K702 around 8 months. It is a great headphone that have its own ground. With ALO cable the sound go even one more step.

If the price is so low then that will be a great headphone to taste cable rolling.

Prices go up and down. That's normal for everything.

I bought a SRH440 for $79, HD555 for $80. All NIB. They are not likely at that prices recently.

There are an authorized dealer on eBay are selling K702 B-rating for $234 shipped.

I remember the HD6X0 series being a good ~30€ cheaper than now. The K701 I can find for 200€ new which is a good price. I remember those being 220€.

Not everyone likes them? AKG don't have a competing headphone with the HD800? Advances in production which have cut costs? Originally planned a stepped price with high prices [rrp] for early adopters? Who knows.

K701 is a bargain for the sound quality you get. I bought mine from the eBay authorized dealer as "B' stock and they looked new and untouched. No regrets.

If you keep finding you can found great deals on akg's, i bought a pair of them with a 20% discount price, but the units on stock were sold really fast.
