I've seen videos of it and it seems like 4-5 seconds, which is much slower than the d2, which I'm also considering picking up. Supposedly the new firmware is suppose to help this but I havn't really heard people discuss startup time specifically.

4 to 5 secs. seems right. I haven't tried any new firmware for my i7. At least it's not over 1 minute like my Sansa e250.
