i'm curious as to what the next significant improvement is from the fubar II (other than the spitfire). i'm still unsure how much of an improvement in SQ i'll get from changing DACs... or is the fubar II pretty good already? preeze advise

Zhaolu D2 or LiTe DAC-Ah. You'll need a SPDIF output from your PC for those though...

oh, i see. well, do you guys think the x-fi platinum's optical spdif is any good or should i opt to buy another spdif output?

alright, here's what i'm going to do:

X-Fi Platinum (optical out from the breakout box or digital coax from the card?)>LiTe DAC-Ah>Amp>Headphones

Opinions on the setup? I'm also curious about cables to hook up my x-fi platinum to the LiTe DAC-Ah... i saw this cable on another thread for the digital coax directly on the card (via flexi-jack) but i'm also interested if the optical out's any good or better. so if anyone knows about this and can recommend a good optical cable, i'd appreciate that =)

also... when using digital or optical out on the x-fi platinum, will i have to turn off my speakers attached to the card if i wanted to just listen to my headphones thru this setup? i've been using a usb dac, so i never had to worry about turning off my speakers before.

can't help but feel like i'm talking to myself here.
